Make crispy, bite-sized French toast quickly in your air fryer. These bites feature a sweet cinnamon coating and cook fast for a perfect breakfast or snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 slices thick bread (Texas toast or brioche recommended)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk (any type)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for batter)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon (for coating)
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing)

Instructions

  1. Cut the bread slices into 1-inch cubes. Place the cubes in a large bowl.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon until fully combined.
  3. Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes. Gently toss to coat all pieces evenly. Let the bread soak for 5 minutes.
  4. In a shallow dish, mix the granulated sugar and 1 tablespoon of cinnamon for the coating.
  5. Lightly spray your air fryer basket with cooking spray.
  6. Working in batches, remove the soaked bread cubes, allowing excess liquid to drip off. Toss the cubes lightly in the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  7. Arrange the coated cubes in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Do not overcrowd the basket; work in batches if necessary.
  8. Brush the tops of the bites lightly with melted butter.
  9. Air fry at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 8 to 10 minutes, flipping the bites halfway through the cooking time.
  10. Continue cooking until the bites are golden brown and crispy on all sides.
  11. Serve immediately, optionally with a maple syrup or cream cheese dipping sauce.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, you can lightly spray the bites with cooking spray again before the final few minutes of air frying.
  • If you want to make these ahead, you can assemble the cubes and coating mixture, but do not soak them until ready to cook.
  • Use day-old bread for the best texture, as it absorbs the custard better without becoming too soggy.
