Make crunchy, sweet banana chips using your air fryer with a simple cinnamon sugar coating. This recipe focuses on achieving maximum crispiness.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 medium bananas (slightly under-ripe)
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil (melted)

Instructions

  1. Peel the bananas and slice them thinly, about 1/8 inch thick. Uniform thickness helps them crisp evenly.
  2. In a small bowl, mix the granulated sugar and cinnamon together to create the coating mixture.
  3. In a separate bowl, toss the banana slices with the melted coconut oil until lightly coated.
  4. Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture over the oiled banana slices and toss gently to coat all pieces.
  5. Preheat your air fryer to 320°F (160°C) for 5 minutes.
  6. Arrange the coated banana slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Do not overlap them; work in batches if necessary.
  7. Air fry for 8 minutes.
  8. Carefully flip the chips. Continue to air fry for another 5 to 8 minutes, checking frequently after the 5-minute mark, until the edges are golden brown and the chips are firm and crisp.
  9. Remove the chips from the air fryer immediately and let them cool completely on a wire rack. They will crisp up further as they cool.

Notes

  • Use slightly green or firm bananas; very ripe bananas contain too much moisture and will not crisp well.
  • If the chips are still chewy after cooling, return them to the air fryer for 2-3 minute intervals at 300°F (150°C) until dry.
  • For extra crispiness, you can lightly dust the slices with a teaspoon of cornstarch before oiling, though this is optional.
