Ingredients
Scale
8 ounces halloumi cheese
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Cooking spray (oil-based)
Instructions
Cut the halloumi block into fry shapes, about 1/2 inch thick. Pat the pieces very dry with paper towels.
In a shallow bowl, mix the cornstarch, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and black pepper.
Toss the halloumi fries in the cornstarch mixture until lightly and evenly coated. Shake off any excess powder.
Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
Arrange the coated halloumi fries in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Do not overcrowd; work in batches if necessary.
Spray the tops of the fries lightly with cooking spray.
Air fry at 380°F (195°C) for 8 to 10 minutes, flipping halfway through the cooking time.
Check at 8 minutes; the fries should be golden brown and crispy on the outside and soft inside.
Remove immediately and serve hot with your preferred dipping sauce.
Notes
Drying the halloumi thoroughly before coating is key to achieving a crisp exterior.
If you prefer a slightly thicker crust, you can use panko breadcrumbs instead of just cornstarch.
For best results, do not skip the light spray of oil; this helps the coating brown properly.
The inside of the halloumi will become soft and slightly molten when cooked correctly.
