Make crunchy, flavorful chicken tenders in your air fryer using a Parmesan coating for a quick, low-oil meal or snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch strips
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Prepare the chicken: Pat the chicken strips dry with paper towels. This step helps the coating stick.
  2. Set up the dredging stations: In one shallow dish, whisk the egg and water together. In a second dish, combine the flour, salt, and pepper. In a third dish, mix the grated Parmesan cheese, panko breadcrumbs, garlic powder, and oregano.
  3. Coat the chicken: Dredge each chicken strip first in the flour mixture, shaking off excess. Dip it into the egg wash. Finally, press the strip firmly into the Parmesan-breadcrumb mixture until fully coated.
  4. Preheat the air fryer to 380°F (195°C).
  5. Arrange the tenders in a single layer in the air fryer basket, ensuring they do not overlap. You may need to work in batches.
  6. Lightly spray the tops of the coated tenders with cooking spray for extra crispness.
  7. Air fry for 10 to 12 minutes, flipping the tenders halfway through the cooking time.
  8. Check the internal temperature; the chicken is done when it reaches 165°F (74°C) and the coating is golden brown and crispy.
  9. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For the crispiest result, do not overcrowd the air fryer basket during cooking.
  • If you prefer a slightly thicker crust, add 1/4 cup of almond flour to the Parmesan mixture.
  • Serve these tenders with ranch dressing or marinara sauce for dipping.
