Cook a whole chicken in your air fryer for crispy skin and juicy meat. This recipe provides a simple method for a fast, rotisserie-style roast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 whole chicken (about 3-4 lbs)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme

Instructions

  1. Remove the chicken from its packaging and remove any giblets from the cavity. Pat the entire chicken dry with paper towels. This step helps achieve crispy skin.
  2. In a small bowl, mix the salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and thyme.
  3. Rub the olive oil all over the exterior of the chicken.
  4. Sprinkle the seasoning mix evenly over the chicken, rubbing it into the skin.
  5. Place the chicken breast-side up in the air fryer basket. Do not overcrowd the basket.
  6. Set the air fryer temperature to 360°F (180°C). Cook for 40 minutes.
  7. After 40 minutes, carefully flip the chicken over. Increase the temperature to 380°F (195°C). Cook for another 15 to 20 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) in the thickest part of the thigh.
  8. Remove the chicken from the air fryer and let it rest on a cutting board for 10 minutes before carving.

Notes

  • If your air fryer basket is small, you may need to cook a smaller chicken or cut the chicken into pieces.
  • For extra moisture, you can stuff the cavity loosely with half a lemon and a few sprigs of rosemary before seasoning.
  • Check the internal temperature with a meat thermometer for accuracy.
