Ingredients
Scale
2 cups whole milk
1 cup heavy cream
4 ounces good quality bittersweet chocolate, chopped
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
Pinch of salt
1/4 cup Baileys Irish Cream
2 tablespoons bourbon
Whipped cream, for topping
Chocolate shavings, for garnish
Instructions
Combine the milk, heavy cream, chopped chocolate, cocoa powder, sugar, and salt in a medium saucepan.
Heat the mixture over medium heat, whisking constantly until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth and steaming, about 5 to 7 minutes. Do not let it boil.
Remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in the Baileys Irish Cream and bourbon until fully combined.
Pour the hot chocolate into mugs.
Top each serving generously with whipped cream and a sprinkle of chocolate shavings.
Notes
For an even richer flavor, substitute half of the milk with half-and-half.
You can adjust the amount of bourbon and Baileys to match your preference for strength.
If you do not have bourbon, dark rum or brandy works well as a substitute.
