Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 4 ounces unsweetened chocolate, chopped
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup crushed candy canes (about 10-12 regular candy canes)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan, or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the butter and unsweetened chocolate together. Stir until smooth. Remove from heat.
  3. Whisk the sugar into the chocolate mixture until well combined.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  7. Gently fold in the crushed candy canes.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs attached.
  10. Let the brownies cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.

Notes

  • For an extra festive touch, you can sprinkle a few extra crushed candy canes on top of the brownies before baking.
  • Ensure your candy canes are finely crushed for even distribution.
  • Store cooled brownies in an airtight container at room temperature.
