Make a rich, creamy, and light chocolate mousse using only three simple ingredients. This no-bake dessert sets quickly and is perfect for individual servings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream, cold
  • 8 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon powdered sugar (optional, for extra sweetness)

Instructions

  1. Place the chopped chocolate in a medium, heatproof bowl.
  2. Heat half of the heavy whipping cream (1/2 cup) in a small saucepan over medium heat until it just begins to simmer around the edges. Do not boil.
  3. Pour the hot cream over the chopped chocolate. Let it sit undisturbed for 5 minutes to melt the chocolate completely.
  4. Whisk the chocolate and cream mixture until completely smooth and glossy. Set aside and let it cool to room temperature.
  5. In a separate, chilled bowl, whip the remaining 1/2 cup of cold heavy whipping cream and the optional powdered sugar until stiff peaks form.
  6. Gently fold one-third of the whipped cream into the cooled chocolate mixture to lighten it.
  7. Carefully fold in the remaining whipped cream until just combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the mousse airy.
  8. Spoon the mousse into individual serving cups or ramekins.
  9. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate instead of semi-sweet.
  • If you want a lighter texture, use a hand mixer to whip the cream for the base mixture slightly before folding.
  • Garnish with fresh berries or a dusting of cocoa powder before serving.
