This Chocolate Peppermint Tiramisu Trifle is an indulgent holiday dessert. It layers rich chocolate, refreshing peppermint, and creamy mascarpone for a festive treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (approximately 12 ounces) chocolate ladyfingers
  • 1/2 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled
  • 1/4 cup peppermint schnapps (optional)
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 8 ounces mascarpone cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup chocolate syrup
  • 1/4 cup crushed peppermint candies
  • 1 cup whipped cream (for topping)
  • Chocolate shavings (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Dip each chocolate ladyfinger briefly into the cooled coffee mixed with peppermint schnapps (if using). Arrange a single layer of dipped ladyfingers in the bottom of a trifle dish.
  2. In a medium bowl, whip the heavy cream with granulated sugar and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
  3. In a separate bowl, gently fold the softened mascarpone cheese into the whipped cream mixture until just combined.
  4. Spread half of the chocolate syrup over the ladyfinger layer.
  5. Spoon half of the mascarpone cream mixture over the chocolate syrup.
  6. Repeat the layers: another layer of dipped ladyfingers, the remaining chocolate syrup, and the remaining mascarpone cream mixture.
  7. Sprinkle the crushed peppermint candies evenly over the top layer.
  8. Cover the trifle dish and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld and the ladyfingers to soften.
  9. Before serving, top with whipped cream and garnish with chocolate shavings.

Notes

  • For a non-alcoholic version, omit the peppermint schnapps and add an extra 1/4 cup of coffee or milk to the soaking liquid.
  • Ensure the mascarpone cheese is at room temperature for easier mixing.
  • Chill time is crucial for the best texture and flavor.
