Ingredients
Scale
1 loaf (16 ounces) challah or brioche bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
8 large eggs
3 cups eggnog
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons butter, melted
Optional toppings: whipped cream, extra nutmeg, maple syrup
Instructions
Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
Arrange the bread cubes evenly in the prepared baking dish.
In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, eggnog, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and salt until well combined.
Pour the eggnog mixture evenly over the bread cubes, ensuring all pieces are moistened. Gently press down on the bread to help it absorb the liquid.
Drizzle the melted butter over the top.
Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the bread to soak.
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Remove the plastic wrap and bake for 45-55 minutes, or until the French toast bake is puffed, golden brown, and set in the center. A knife inserted into the center should come out clean.
Let it cool slightly before serving.
Serve warm with your favorite toppings.
Notes
For a richer flavor, use whole milk eggnog.
If you don’t have challah or brioche, French bread or a sturdy white bread can be used, but may require less soaking time.
To make ahead, assemble the bake and refrigerate, then bake within 24 hours.
