Make this easy, make-ahead red wine sangria featuring cranberry and orange flavors, perfect for your holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (750 ml) bottle dry red wine (like Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon)
  • 1 cup cranberry juice
  • 1/2 cup orange liqueur (like Cointreau or Triple Sec)
  • 1/4 cup brandy
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 whole star anise
  • 1 orange, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1 crisp apple (like Honeycrisp), cored and chopped
  • 1 cup sparkling water or club soda (for serving)

Instructions

  1. In a large pitcher or punch bowl, combine the red wine, cranberry juice, orange liqueur, brandy, sugar, cinnamon stick, and star anise. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
  2. Add the sliced orange, cranberries, and chopped apple to the wine mixture.
  3. Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the fruit to macerate and the flavors to blend.
  4. Before serving, remove the cinnamon stick and star anise if desired.
  5. To serve, pour the sangria mixture into glasses filled with ice. Top each glass with a splash of sparkling water or club soda.

Notes

  • You can prepare this sangria up to 24 hours in advance for the best flavor.
  • If you prefer a sweeter drink, increase the sugar slightly.
  • For a white wine variation, substitute the red wine with Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc.
