Create a delicious homemade Maple Bourbon Apple Butter in your slow cooker. This spread is perfect for fall, offering a warm, spiced apple flavor with a hint of bourbon. It’s easy to make and will fill your home with an amazing aroma.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 pounds apples, peeled, cored, and quartered (about 12-15 medium apples)
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup bourbon
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Place the prepared apples in your slow cooker.
  2. Add the brown sugar, maple syrup, bourbon, cinnamon, allspice, cloves, and salt to the slow cooker.
  3. Stir everything together to coat the apples evenly.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours, or on high for 4-5 hours, until the apples are very tender.
  5. Carefully transfer the cooked apple mixture to a blender or use an immersion blender to puree until smooth. Work in batches if necessary.
  6. Return the pureed apple butter to the slow cooker.
  7. Remove the lid, set the slow cooker to high (if it wasn’t already), and cook for another 1-2 hours, stirring occasionally, until the apple butter has thickened to your desired consistency.
  8. Stir in the lemon juice.
  9. Let the apple butter cool slightly before spooning it into jars.

Notes

  • For a smoother consistency, you can press the cooked apples through a food mill before pureeing.
  • Ensure your slow cooker insert is oven-safe if you plan to use the oven method for thickening.
  • This apple butter can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks or frozen for longer storage.
