Ingredients
Scale
4 pork shoulder steaks (about 1 inch thick)
1/2 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, vegetable oil, minced garlic, ginger, and black pepper to create the pork steak marinade.
Place the pork steaks in a large zip-top bag or shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the steaks, ensuring they are fully coated.
Refrigerate and marinate the pork steaks for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight for the best flavor.
If grilling: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Remove steaks from the marinade, letting excess drip off. Grill for 5 to 7 minutes per side, until the internal temperature reaches 145 degrees Fahrenheit.
If baking: Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a baking sheet. Place the marinated steaks on the sheet. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the internal temperature reaches 145 degrees Fahrenheit.
Remove the pork steaks from the heat and let them rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
For extra caramelization on the grill, brush a little reserved marinade onto the steaks during the last minute of cooking.
Pork shoulder steaks are budget-friendly cuts that benefit greatly from marinating.
Serve these grilled pork steaks with classic Midwest sides like coleslaw or potato salad.
