Ingredients
Scale
1 (8 ounce) package refrigerated crescent roll dough
1 pound breakfast sausage, cooked and drained
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Unroll the crescent roll dough onto a clean surface. Press the seams together to form one large rectangle.
In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, cooked sausage, and shredded cheddar cheese. Mix until fully combined.
Spread the cheese and sausage mixture evenly over the entire surface of the dough rectangle.
Starting from one long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log. Wrap the log in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes. This helps the log hold its shape.
Remove the dough log from the refrigerator and unwrap it. Slice the log into 1/2-inch thick rounds.
Place the pinwheels cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 1 inch between each piece.
Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and puffed.
Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
You can use puff pastry instead of crescent roll dough for a flakier texture.
For make-ahead preparation, assemble the rolls, wrap them, and refrigerate for up to 24 hours before slicing and baking.
Drain the sausage very well after cooking to prevent the filling from becoming too oily.
