Make these simple, flavorful Italian sausage stuffed mushrooms for your next party. They are packed with savory sausage, cream cheese, and Parmesan, and bake up perfectly without getting soggy.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound cremini mushrooms, stems removed and finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound sweet or hot Italian sausage, casings removed
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese, plus more for topping
  • 1/4 cup panko breadcrumbs (optional, for texture)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a baking sheet.
  2. Wipe the mushroom caps clean. Finely chop the removed stems and set aside.
  3. Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the Italian sausage and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Drain off any excess grease.
  4. Add the chopped mushroom stems and minced garlic to the skillet with the sausage. Cook for 3 to 5 minutes until the stems are soft. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  5. In a medium bowl, combine the cooled sausage mixture, softened cream cheese, 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, parsley, and panko breadcrumbs (if using). Mix well until everything is evenly combined. Season with salt and pepper.
  6. Spoon the filling evenly into the mushroom caps, mounding it slightly on top.
  7. Place the stuffed mushrooms on the prepared baking sheet. Sprinkle a little extra Parmesan cheese over the top of each one.
  8. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the filling is hot throughout and the tops are golden brown. For smaller mushrooms, check at 18 minutes.
  9. Let the party finger foods cool for a few minutes before serving warm.

Notes

  • For a low-carb option, skip the panko breadcrumbs entirely. The filling will still hold together well.
  • You can prepare these italian sausage stuffed mushrooms cream cheese style up to 24 hours ahead. Cover and refrigerate them, then add about 5 extra minutes to the bake time.
  • If you want to try air fryer stuffed mushrooms, cook them at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 to 12 minutes, checking for doneness.
  • To keep these holiday appetizer platter favorites warm for serving, place them on a baking sheet and keep them in a very low oven (around 200 degrees Fahrenheit) for up to 30 minutes.
