Make crispy tofu nuggets coated in a sticky honey garlic sauce using just one sheet pan for simple cleanup. This recipe delivers a sweet and savory vegan dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 block (14 oz) extra-firm tofu, pressed and cubed
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon neutral oil (like canola or vegetable)
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce or tamari
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon sriracha (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, toss the pressed tofu cubes with cornstarch, salt, and pepper until evenly coated.
  3. Spread the coated tofu in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Drizzle with 1 tablespoon of oil.
  4. Bake for 20 minutes.
  5. While the tofu bakes, prepare the sauce. In a small saucepan, combine honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, minced garlic, grated ginger, and sriracha (if using).
  6. Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer over medium heat. Cook for 2 minutes, stirring constantly, until slightly thickened.
  7. In a small cup, mix 1 tablespoon of water with 1 teaspoon of cornstarch (this is a slurry). Whisk the slurry into the simmering sauce and cook for 1 minute more until the sauce is glossy and thick. Remove from heat.
  8. After the tofu has baked for 20 minutes, remove the sheet pan from the oven. Pour half of the honey garlic sauce over the tofu and gently toss to coat.
  9. Return the tofu to the oven and bake for another 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and crispy.
  10. Remove the pan from the oven. Drizzle the remaining sauce over the hot tofu nuggets and toss lightly before serving immediately.

Notes

  • Pressing the tofu thoroughly is key to achieving crispiness. Wrap the block in paper towels and place something heavy on top for at least 30 minutes.
  • For extra crispiness, you can toss the tofu in the sauce only after the initial 20-minute bake, then bake for the final 10 minutes to let the sauce caramelize.
  • Serve over rice or with steamed broccoli.
