Make this flavorful Thai Basil Chicken Lettuce Wrap for a light and spicy meal. This recipe brings bold Asian flavors right to your table.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground chicken
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small shallot, minced
  • 1 red chili pepper, thinly sliced (adjust to your spice preference)
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon fish sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1 cup fresh Thai basil leaves
  • 8 large lettuce leaves (such as butter or iceberg), washed and dried

Instructions

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the minced garlic, minced shallot, and sliced chili pepper. Stir fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  3. Add the ground chicken to the skillet. Break it up with a spoon and cook until browned, about 5 to 7 minutes.
  4. Pour in the soy sauce, fish sauce, brown sugar, and black pepper. Stir well to coat the chicken.
  5. Add the chicken broth. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook until the liquid mostly evaporates and the chicken is coated in a thick sauce, about 3 minutes.
  6. Remove the skillet from the heat. Stir in the fresh Thai basil leaves until they just wilt.
  7. Spoon the chicken mixture evenly into the center of each lettuce cup.
  8. Serve immediately and enjoy your delicious wrap.

Notes

  • Use fresh Thai basil for the best authentic flavor. If you cannot find it, regular sweet basil is an acceptable substitute.
  • Adjust the amount of chili pepper based on how spicy you like your food.
  • You can use ground turkey or pork instead of chicken if you prefer.
  • For extra crunch, you can top the filling with chopped peanuts before serving.
