Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box (15.25 oz) vanilla cake mix
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 1/3 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 container (16 oz) vanilla frosting
  • 1 cup white candy melts
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable shortening
  • White sanding sugar or edible glitter, for decorating
  • Cake pop sticks

Instructions

  1. Prepare the cake mix according to package directions, using eggs, oil, water, and vanilla extract.
  2. Pour batter into a greased and floured 9×13 inch baking pan.
  3. Bake according to package directions until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  4. Let the cake cool completely.
  5. Crumble the cooled cake into a large bowl.
  6. Add the vanilla frosting to the crumbled cake and mix until well combined and a dough-like consistency is formed.
  7. Roll the mixture into small balls, about 1 inch in diameter.
  8. Insert a cake pop stick into each ball.
  9. Chill the cake pops in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes until firm.
  10. Melt the white candy melts with vegetable shortening in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth.
  11. Dip each cake pop into the melted candy melts, ensuring it is fully coated.
  12. Allow excess candy to drip off.
  13. Immediately sprinkle with white sanding sugar or edible glitter before the coating sets.
  14. Place the decorated cake pops on parchment paper to set completely.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, you can use a homemade vanilla cake recipe.
  • Ensure the cake and frosting mixture is firm enough to roll into balls. If it’s too sticky, add a little more frosting.
  • If the candy melts become too thick, add a little more shortening to thin them out.
