Bake sweet apples until tender, filled with warm cinnamon and crunchy nuts for a comforting dessert perfect for a cozy evening.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium baking apples (like Honeycrisp or Fuji)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
  • 2 tablespoons water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Lightly grease a small baking dish.
  2. Wash and dry the apples. Use an apple corer or a small knife to carefully remove the core from the top, leaving the bottom intact so the filling stays inside.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together the softened butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  4. Stir in the chopped nuts until everything is well combined.
  5. Spoon the cinnamon-nut mixture evenly into the center hole of each apple.
  6. Place the filled apples in the prepared baking dish. Pour the water into the bottom of the dish around the apples.
  7. Bake for 35 to 45 minutes, or until the apples are tender when pierced with a fork.
  8. Serve warm. You can drizzle any pan juices over the top before serving.

Notes

  • Choose apples that hold their shape well when baked.
  • For extra richness, add a splash of vanilla extract to the filling mixture.
  • If you do not have pecans, almonds or even rolled oats make great additions.
  • Taste the filling mixture before stuffing the apples to adjust sweetness if desired.
